The Mfuko - a non-profit seeking organisation was registered on September 24, 1998 and officially established a month later after the two governments reached a joint agreement signed on November 6, 1998. It has been working with different actors and stakeholders of the culture sector in many different cultural and associated activities in the country for nearly six years. Each year since its inception, the organisation has been broadening and improving its continued support to the sector with the aim of playing a major role in the national development efforts. The Scope of Tanzania Culture Trust Fund Mfuko is a semi autonomous pan-territorial cultural organisation that covers cultural and associated activities in both Zanzibar and Mainland Tanzania. Its coverage spans from the coastal regions to the Great lakes of Tanganyika and Victoria in the west. One of Mfuko's wish in the future, is to extend its reach and coverage of cultural activities in this part of Africa by networking with similar regional as well as international institutions and organisations engaged in the promotion and strengthening of the culture sectors in their countries. This cultural collaboration will serve as a strategy to promote regional socio-economic cooperation, which is necessary in the present era of free market economy and globalisation. |
