Profile

Kiswahili has played a leading role in uniting Tanzanians. The language facilitates the development of unique Kiswahili-based culture, derived from linguistic expressions adopted from various ethnic cultures and languages. Gradually, other important international languages, notably English, are being translated and derived vocabulary and expressions incorporated in the socio-economic and academic system.

Mfuko supports and promotes linguistic and literary activities that enable the development and promotion of Kiswahili culture and other literary works. Actors/stakeholders in this sub-sector include writers and publishers; journalists and media organizations; language and literary institutions as well as libraries.

Priority areas
  1. Promotion of the growth and use of Kiswahili language as well as Kiswahili-based culture.

  2. Support and promote the book publishing industry by sponsoring publishing of outstanding manuscripts; encourage writing through competitions; research on new books and training in the art of literary criticism.

  3. Enhance outputs of BAKITA (National Kiswahili Council)

  4. Establishment of Village/Division/District libraries

Beneficiaries in this constituency include training institutions, writers, publishers and their associations as well as journalists, media organizations and their associations.
